Wouldn’t it be great if you could just buy one box and it was enough to furnish an entire room or small apartment? For people who move a lot, and especially college students the answer is probably a yes. And that is exactly what Room in a Box offers.
Bookniture is a book, which can be transformed into a chair. It was created by Mike Mak, a designer from Hong Kong and has already been successfully funded through Kickstarter. Folded up it looks like a book, but it unfolds to create a three-dimensional support for a seat, side table, coffee table or a worktable, when two are stacked one on top of the other. It would certainly make a great addition to any tiny home and is without a doubt one of the most innovative furniture ideas.
Wouldn’t it be nice if all it took to furnish a room was one piece of furniture? Well, that dream has now come true. Heri&Salli, an architecture firm from Austria have just unveiled the so-called Viennese Guest Bed, which is the only piece of furniture one needs to fully furnish a guest room.
Living in a shipping container, or another type of small space, can be very sustainable, but such a small home calls for innovative furniture solutions. Modular furniture that can do more than one job is usually the only solution, especially since it has a small footprint when stowed way. The first team from the Czech Republic to enter the Solar Decathlon is Team CTU, made up of 26 students who set their sights on designing and building a prototype for future housing while raising awareness of solar energy, energy efficiency, and Czech architecture and engineering.
Their submission in the Solar Decathlon 2013, for which judging takes place in October 2013 in Irvine, California, is AIR House, which stands for Affordable – Innovative – Recyclable. Utilizing energy effective materials and technologies, AIR House provides a comfortable environment for older generations that appeals to the senses and respects the environment.
