This is the Modern Living Showhouse on display at Dwell on Design 2011. The green prefab was designed by Jonathan Davis of pieceHomes, built by OneBuild Inc., and styled by Zem Joaquin and ecofabulous. With 520 square feet, the dwelling is spacious enough to include a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. See the interior photos below with a description of green materials and technologies included in the showcase.
Update 7/1/2011: Dwell Show Prefab to be Sold on eBay.
Looks like progress is being made on the new showhouse planned for Dwell on Design 2011. The 550-square foot prefab has a lively modern design and will be completed by an all-star project team – OneBuild (a new modular startup), pieceHomes (led by architect Jonathan Davis), and ecofabulous (led by designer Zem Joaquin). The showhouse will be auctioned through eBay with proceeds to benefit Global Green USA.
Austin-based Reclaimed Space built this modular prefab with roughly 80% reclaimed materials and presented it at Dwell on Design 2010. With interior design by Zem Joaquin, founder of Ecofabulous, the 400-square-foot home has Electrolux appliances, a vertical living wall from Fyto Wall, CaesarStone countertops, Mythic zero-VOC paints, Solatube daylighting, LED lighting, and Caroma water-efficient bathroom fixtures. So here’s the deal. The Harbinger SG Blocks Showhouse was bad out. Everyone I talked to loved it. You might think that a shipping container home would feel closed-in and constrictive, but this home certainly wasn’t. At 1700 sf, everything felt just right to me. I was able to sneak into the Exhibit Hall early enough to get some killer images (in case you couldn’t be there), so let’s talk a walk through the Harbinger House below.
