There are quite a few portable solar power solutions on the market, but ones that harness wind for energy are much more scarce. That is why the new device called Trinity is pretty unique. It was designed by the firm Janulus from Minnesota and will be available on the market as soon as the company collects enough investor funds to begin large scale production.
The firm will be offering the turbine in four sizes. The smallest is the Trinity 50, which is a three-blade, horizontal type wind turbine able to generate 50-watt of power. The rest are called Trinity 400, 1000 and 2500, and design-wise they are just bigger versions of the Trinity 50, and with increasing power generation capabilities. The wattage they are capable of producing corresponds to the number in the name. They can also be used as either horizontal or vertical axis turbines. The vertical setting is useful in times of high wind speeds.
The Trinity 2500 is especially impressive due to how much power it can produce while remaining very portable. It is 39 inches (100 cm) tall, and rests atop a 40-inch tripod stand. It weighs just 42 pounds (19 kg) and has a 2,500-watt generator that charges a 300,000-mAh lithium-ion battery pack. This is enough to run small appliances, charge your laptop, electric car, phone or other gadgets. The turbines all come in a cylinder tube carrying case and can fit in the trunk of an electric car.
These turbines are also very easy to use and affordable. The batteries, controllers and inverter are all already built into the device, so it’s ready to go as soon as it is set up. The turbines are also capable of automatically switching from charging devices from the battery or directly from the turbine, depending on the energy levels currently being generated.
Janulus have turned to KickStarter to fund the production, and it appears that the project is going to go ahead since they have already raised the goal amount of funds.
