The containers they used were first prepared by sanding and removing the original wood flooring, after which the necessary openings for windows and doors were cut out. After the basic structure was assembled, the builders added wood strapping and used soy-based foam to insulate the home. The exterior was clad in wooden paneling, while the living area also opens onto a spacious wooden deck. There is also a balcony in the master bedroom.





According to the owners, this project was more than just an exercise in sustainable building in that they also wanted to express themselves and their innermost views and beliefs through it. The home took about a year to build, from conception to final product. The next step for the owners is attaching a shipping container community yoga studio to the home.
