Blu Homes is on a tear lining up projects and relaunching iconic homes such as the Glidehouse. This month, the Massachusetts-based start-up is “Perfecting an Icon” in the form of unveiling the new and improved Breezehouse. In fact, just barely into the relaunch, Blu already sold two of these homes and is working on a few more in the pipeline, according to Maura McCarthy, co-founder and VP of sales and marketing.
Breezehouse features an iconic butterfly roof above a center “breeze space.” The breezeway — perfect for a location like California — opens the interior to natural light, fresh air, and an indoor/outdoor living experience like none other.
With Blu’s steel frame and folding technology, this home can be shipped nationally and unfolded on an owner’s foundation in mere hours. It’s going to be spacious too. The design incorporates a first-of-its-kind double-unfold that allows for spacious, one-level living (and a bigger kitchen and larger master).
The envelope is updated with better insulation and engineered for heavy snow and high winds. As with other Blu Homes, Breezehouse is expected to be about 50-60% more efficient than an average home and built with no-VOC paints, Andersen or NanaWall windows and doors, Kohler water-efficient fixtures, and bamboo or FSC-certified floors.
