Off-The-Grid Living in a Yurt


When it comes to off-the-grid, sustainable living we have a lot to learn from our ancestors. The yurt is a great example of ancient architecture, which still makes sense today. The Scottish company Trakke recently unveiled the so-called Jero yurt, which makes for a great little shelter, that can easily become an off-the-grid dwelling, a guesthouse or a cabin. The yurt can be assembled very quickly, and can easily be towed to anywhere in the world.

A Solar Powered Yurt Cabin You Can Build Yourself


The Polyurt 180, made by the company Full Circle Shelters, is a cabin that measures 180 square feet and can house up to 4 people, and can provide a completely off-the-grid and mortgage free living. On top of that, it is also very easy to construct, while the 12-sided, circular shape of the yurt makes for a very strong structure.

Roundhouse Garden Buildings Inspired by Yurts

Rotunda Living, a small home builder based in the United Kingdom, has designed some small, contemporary round houses inspired by nature’s shapes and elements. They look like the perfect backyard getaway to use as a studio, guest bedroom, pool house, or meditative escape space.

The design is similar to a yurt, but with solid walls. The plan is to use locally-sourced materials and a local supply chain to create quality, sustainable materials that will not sacrifice aesthetics.
