Innovative Revolve House Wins This Year’s SMUD Competition

The so-called SMUD Tiny House Competition is very new, and this year it took place in Sacramento, California. Its main aim is to promote sustainable living and eco-construction of tiny homes. This year, the winning entry was the so-called Revolve House, which was entered into the competition by Santa Clara University. It competed against 9 other California-based college teams and their creations.

Conversion of a Micro Apartment Into a Cozy Home

Turning micro spaces into cozy apartments seems to be the answer to the housing crisis in many cities across the world. With the help of transformer furniture and multipurpose units that’s not very hard to do. The latest such successful transformation was recently completed in Milan, Italy. A Tiny House Community Going Up in Colorado

The firm Sprout Tiny Homes will be building a 200 house community in Salida, Colorado. The houses will be available for rent, while there will also be a number of communal features such as a gym, a restaurant, and more. The tiny house community will be located on a 19-acre piece of land along the Arkansas River. Once completed it will be the largest tiny home community in the US, and the project recently got the go-ahead from the Salida city council.

Village of Sustainable Homes in Norway is Well Underway

Norway is getting the so-called Bygda 2.0, or Village 2.0, which is a new sustainable development in a rural, seaside area of Norway. The project will focus on developing modern Norwegian houses that will be sustainable, and will form a village of sorts, complete with spaces for doing businesses and research activities. As the people behind it say, “It will be a place to live, work and enjoy.”

Japan has very stringent building codes and high taxes on land, which means that most of the homes, especially in cities like Tokyo, get built on oddly-shaped lots. These are usually the result of existing plots of land getting further subdivided to accommodate several generations of a family.
