Dignified Disaster Relief Housing

There is always need for disaster relief housing, and the recently introduced Hex House is certainly one of the more dignified ones. It was created by a non-profit design practice Architects For Society, which is a joint effort of professionals from the US, Europe and the Middle East. Their aim is provide easy to deploy housing, which is both affordable and provides a dignified way to live to refugees, and those displaced by natural disasters. (more…)

Wooden Tower Planned in Holland

Building wooden skyscrapers seems to be gaining in popularity, and now one is going up in Amsterdam. The so-called Haut tower was designed by the Dutch firm Team V Architecture and they plan to begin construction in the later part of 2017. (more…)

Tiny Home Made Out of SIPs and Recycled Materials

At first glance this home would be easy to confuse for a shipping container home, but it’s not. It was built using structural insulated panels (SIPs) by former boat builder and carpenter Jeff Hobbs of Room To Move. He was hired by owner Briar Hale, and Hobbs drew heavily on his experience as a boat builder when designing the home. (more…)

Modular Home Made of Cardboard

Nido House is yet another pretty tiny home made from cardboard, a building material that seems to be catching on lately. This home can function off-the-grid, since it’s equipped with a solar power system and a rainwater recovery system, among other things, and it is available in various sizes and designs. It was created by Italian architect Francesca Fadalti and her business partner Michela Romano. (more…)
