There’s a new online video show hosted by Alex Pettitt called Mainstream Green.  Their videos are high-quality and super informative.  Sometimes, it helps to see how things work, so I love to show video as often as possible.  The video above is on recycling and deconstruction.  The deconstruction guy says the cost of on-site deconstruction is comparable to waste removal.  That’s a good.  Generally, people are self-interested and when it becomes profitable to do the right thing, more and more people will start doing the right thing.  Makes sense doesn’t it?

If you have time, you can sit through all ten of these episodes and really soak in some excellent information.  In Dwell’s first web video series, Building Green in Harlem, the modern magazine company followed David and Alysia as they renovated a brownstone into a modern, sustainable home.  For some reason, the last and final video, Episode 10, which I’ve gone ahead and embedded above for your Friday viewing pleasure, isn’t on the Dwell website with the others.  It is on GreenStreet‘s website; GreenStreet was the design/build team for the project.  The above video shows what they were able to accomplish, and videos like this give people an idea of what can honestly be expected in a green rehab.  Here: open, light, airy, modern.

This is a quality video by Wall Street Journal’s Dana Mattioli featuring Andrew Shapiro, founder and CEO of GreenOrder.  GreenOrder is a sustainable marketing and strategy firm that’s been called the "Green McKinsey" on occasion.  Shapiro takes Mattioli through 7 World Trade Center, explaining the building’s several green aspects, including the rainwater reclamation system, floor-to-ceiling windows, design for natural lighting, and white roof.  You’ll notice also the layout of employees, which is a little more collaborative and fluid.  Experts laud these open layouts as a way to do more with less space, and thereby, save materials.  I’m still unsure as to whether tighter quarters can be more effective, especially with the extra noise and commotion — I definitely think it depends on the job type.  It probably reduces internet usage, though.

It’s Friday and as I like to say, why not watch a little video?  If you’ve been to Dwell lately, you’ll know they just unveiled their new, completely overhauled website.  It’s super nice now, with easy access to images and information from their archives.  There’s also a new video page with content of some very interesting leaders in design.  Hence, the name for their new video series, Dwell Design Leaders.  I’ve embedded the video of Michelle Kaufmann above talking about prefab and the mkLotus.  The next video below is of David Baker.  I found his comments extremely interesting.  The last video below is Christopher Deam talking about his modern interpretation and design of the Airstream and his collaboration with Design Within Reach.  Very compelling, really inspiring.

If you’re like me, you want to be at the Greenbuild Expo, but there’s something keeping you from being there.  Maybe you’re too busy making a green difference in the world and can’t break away.  Maybe you can’t justify the travel to Chicago.  Whatever your reason, it’s still nice to benefit from all the good information available at the event.  Pop over to Greenbuild 365 for updates on what’s happening.  Greenbuild started this morning with President Clinton and ends in a couple days.  Right now, Greenbuild 365 has a video of Thom Mayne, founder and principal with Morphosis (we posted a podcast with him recently, too).  I understand Greenbuild 365 will have more info as the event continues, so check back.  Here at Jetson Green, we’re getting tons of info, so we’ll filter the best and blog about it over the next week or so.
