A Tiny House That Can be Towed by Car

ext

Sixteen students from Vermont’s Green Mountain College’ Renewable Energy and Ecological Design (REED) program recently unveiled an innovative tiny house. The OTIS, short for Optimal Traveling Independent Space, is a 70 square foot tiny house that can be towed anywhere atop a standard 5 by 8 foot trailer attached to a regular car. To make this possible, the design of the OTIS is very aerodynamic, while it is also completely off-the-grid and was built using reclaimed materials as much as possible.

Architect Jaanus Orgusaar from Estonia has designed a tiny modular house that is also a polyhedral form. This fascinating shape occurs in nature, such as in the molecular build up of diamonds and in honeycombs, and it is quite interesting to see it applied to a house. Jaanus has called his cabin Noa, and it consists of twelve identical rhombic faces setup into a unique three-dimensional form.

Micro Homes That Can Be Build Between Buildings

ezt

Designers Mateusz Mastalski and Ole Robin Storjohann from Denmark have come up with an innovative way to produce affordable housing for people living in cities. Rents in most major cities have gone through the roof in recent years, and more and more often the solution is micro housing, as well as more lenient zoning laws. But in their micro-apartment plans, the two Danish designers have gone a step further and eliminated the need for even needing vacant land for the new houses to be built on. Their innovative infill concepts are designed so that the micro-houses they propose can fit in the residual spaces between existing buildings, while still letting in plenty of natural light and being quite spacious.

Sustainable living is something that more and more people are becoming interested in, but unfortunately the costs of downsizing to a tiny home are still prohibitive to many. When Mariah Pastell, an eco-designer from Worcester, Massachusetts wanted to downsize to a tiny home, she decided to transform a vintage camper trailer, rather than build a traditional tiny home from scratch.
She transformed a 1960′s Avalon trailer into what she calls the COMET, which stands for Cost-effective, Off-grid Mobile Eco Trailer. She lives in this tiny home all year, transporting it to warmer climates during the winter months.

Tiny Forest Home Made of Reclaimed Materials

Jeffery, a homebuilder specializing in using only natural materials for his construction projects, recently completed a tiny house in the woods. His main goals were to construct a house that was comfortable to live in and cheap to built, and made from materials destined for the landfill as much as possible. The cabin he built contains a bed, desk and a small wood stove. It is intended to serve mainly as a shelter, and therefore encourage the occupant to go out and enjoy nature.
