Students Build Cozy Vacation Cabins

Not long ago, a team of architecture students from the Colorado Building Workshop built 14 cozy small cabins in Leadville, Colorado. The cabins were prefabricated, and will serve as dormitories of the Colorado Outward Bound School. The cabins are called Colorado Outward Bound Micro Cabins and were built on a rather steep hill in the Lodgepole Pine forest. (more…)

Downsizing to a Mobile Office

Downsizing makes a lot of sense not just for home owners, but also for business owners. The same question applies to both, namely how much space do we really need to live a good and productive life? The architectural firm Studio106 from New Zealand was recently faced with this question, when the renewal of their 1,022 sq ft (95 sq m) office space came up for review. Upon thorough consideration, they opted not to renew the lease, instead designing and building a mobile tiny office, which measures only 97 sq ft (9 sq m). (more…)

Tiny but Perfect Home

Tiny homes can quite easily feel cramped and a lot like living in a box, which is why good design and layout are so very important. Installing large windows that let in plenty of natural light also makes all the difference. And all those things were blended into a perfect tiny home by architect Ann Armstrong of Austin, Texas. Tiny Home Made From Hemp

Hemp is a very versatile material, great for making a whole bunch of useful products. The firm Green Built of Albany, NY have now decided to use hemp to build a tiny home, mainly to raise awareness of the benefits of this building material in the US where it is still rather unknown. Tiny Yet Spacious Home in Hong Kong

The architecture firm LAAB of Hong Kong recently completed a renovation of a small apartment in the city. They were commissioned by a couple who bought the apartment because they wanted to be as close as possible to Hong Kong’s Central district, which is a very expensive place to live. They hired the firm to come up with a solution that would make the most of the available space, and LAAB succeeded in doing so. (more…)

Tiny Home With a DIY Option

The firm 84 Lumber, which sells building supplies in the US, has branched out into offering tiny homes. Their tiny homes are intended to cater to all prospective buyers, from those who wish to build the home themselves, to the ones who simply want the keys of their new tiny home handed to them. Their debut model is called the Roving and costs $19,884 for the Semi-DIY option that comes with a basic shell, doors and trailer, while the rest is up to the buyer to complete. (more…)
