Several months ago, I shared photos of a tiny studio shed by Texas-based Sett Studio and want to share details of cool new project by the same firm in same area. Sett Studio recently worked with The Goodlife Team, a local real estate company, and created these two studios that are now being used as extra space for the company’s expanding East Austin offices.
This is the Kiwi House, an 823 square-foot abode in Bozeman, Montana. The home, owned by Stephen and Julie Shea, was designed by Comma-Q Architecture with the hearth — a soapstone fireplace from Finland-based Tulikivi — radiating warmth from open kitchen and living room area. It’s constructed on an infill lot and covered in a combination of locally-sourced Montana stone and reclaimed redwood and metal.
When I first saw The Wedge, pictured in this article, I immediately thought about the Caboose, which is a tiny house in Wyoming that we mentioned about a year ago. It turns out both of these off-site fabricated cabins are made by Wyoming-based Wheelhaus. Check it out, this is a company that’s turning out next-gen recreational park trailers built with quality and sustainable materials.
UK-based Blue Forest makes inventive tree houses and recently introduced a new design concept called the eco-PERCH, which I think you’ll be interested in seeing. The four-bed retreat can be delivered, assembled, and commissioned in about five days with things like photovoltaics, a composting toilet, and rainwater harvesting, etc.
Since its launch, Boulder-based Studio Shed has shown impressive growth. The company recently announced the launch of Studio Shed Lifestyle, Small Kits, and Garage+ — which means Studio Shed offers anything from a compact storage structure to a fully-finished 600+ square-foot studio. And with a solar-powered factory, the company is in a great position to help homeowners create eco-friendly space when and to the extent needed.
Oregon-based Ideabox has been on the prefab scene doing their thing in the Pacific Northwest for a long time now. I’ve mentioned several of their homes and look forward to sharing a few newsworthy articles here in the next couple months. As a preview, I thought I’d share a new design of the company — the Minibox. It’s a 200 square-foot tiny house with a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom/living area. It’ll have IKEA cabinets and fixtures, energy-efficient appliances, and Energy Star windows. More soon …
