Not So Big Timber Frame Home in Oregon

This is an 800-square-foot home in the River Road area in north Eugene. It was designed by Nir Pearlson and built by Six Degrees Construction for owners Rob Handy and Julie Hulme, who were inspired by The Not So Big House and other books by Sarah Susanka, FAIA. It turns out the owners upsized their situation by deconstructing an existing 620-square foot house built several decades ago, according to The Register-Guard.

Timber Frame Cabin Built on a Waterfront

It’s been a couple years since we last checked in on the work of Seattle-based FabCab, a company that makes prefab and kit-built, eco-friendly homes and accessory dwelling units.  Short for “fabulous cabin,” FabCab has several timber-frame houses under construction in Washington and recently shared photos of this two-level cabin on Camano Island.  It has a timber frame, SIP panels, and a soaring water-front wall of windows.

The accessory dwelling unit is in style these days, especially in the Pacific Northwest.  We’ve seen this with Backyard Boxes in the Seattle and laneway houses in Vancouver, and now FabCab would like to help this market out in Seattle, too.  FabCab – short for fabulous cabin –- is a new endeavor by Emory Baldwin to sell eco-friendly prefab and kit dwellings.
