Earlier this year, Ceracasa unveiled Lifewall, a modular living wall tile for exterior applications made in one square meter panels. Lifewall was designed by and currently marketed globally by Emilio Llobat of Maqla Architects, Azahar Energy, and Ceracasa.
The same folks behind Bio-Glass, Coverings Etc, recently sent us information on another interesting product, Bio-Luminum. Bio-Luminum tiles are made from 100% recycled aluminum salvaged from retired aircrafts. Available with a beveled edge on one side and straight edge on the other, the company says the strength of aircraft aluminum makes this product perfect for high-traffic flooring and high-end wall treatments.
If you like bamboo, you may be interested in this new bamboo subway tile from Anchor Bay Tile. Available in autumn blush, chestnut, ebony, and natural (see below), the three-by-six inch tile is made in the USA with bamboo that's harvested at maturity between 5.5 to 6 years. Anchor Bay Tile uses bamboo that qualifies for SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification and claims the tiles work well in dry applications for both residential and commercial projects.
If you're searching for something new — maybe as a back splash, wall accent, or decorative element — give Slate-ish a look. Slate-ish tiles come in seven colors and are made from reclaimed scrap from the fabrication of Richlite and PaperStone countertops. This is 100% post-industrial waste paper laminate cut into strips, squares, bars, and cubes. Slate-ish tiles are light, non-porous, and provide an interesting alternative to stone applications.
