Southern Hemisphere’s Largest Wind Farm Opens in Australia

The $1 billion AUD, 420-megawatt Macarthur Wind Farm is now feeding Australia’s electric grid. Owned by AGL Energy and Meridian Energy, the farm features the the Vestas V112-3.0 MW wind turbine. More than 50% of the cumulative wind power capacity in Australia has been installed by Vestas.

On March 30, 2013, it was thirteen years since LEED became a fully functioning rating system. There are now more than 184,000 professionals with LEED credentials and 9.7 billion square feet of 51,000 construction projects are participating in LEED. This 1970s-era neo-classical building underwent significant transformations to achieve LEED Platinum certification, but the architects, Duket Architects and Centerbrook Architects and Planners, were tasked with retaining the original facade, which was thought of as a local landmark.

Melbourne Achieves Carbon Neutral Status

Low Carbon Australia, an independent carbon offsetting authority for the Australian Government, has certified the City of Melbourne to join Sydney, Yarra, and Moreland City as having met the National Carbon Offset Standard (NCOS) for carbon neutral status.
