As tiny mobile homes grow in popularity their design gets more and more imaginative too. Architects Kelly Davis and Dan George Dobrowolski have recently completed one such tiny home, which they called the Escape Traveler. This home is basically an RV, which means that it is exempt from standard building codes and zoning bylaws.

Low Carbon Positive Energy Home

Earlier this year, the so-called Solcer House was built by a team from Cardiff University in Wales. Solcer House is such an accomplishment because it is low-cost, low-carbon and energy positive. It was built as part of the Solcer Project, which is a part of the Low Carbon Research Institute Program and the main aim of this prototype house is to show how easily and affordably low-carbon goals can actually be met in architecture. Like IKEA’s Better Shelter, S House and other such affordable solutions for the poor or those affected by natural or other disasters, Temporary Shelter should go a long away to helping these vulnerable groups in Nepal.

Couple Builds Tiny Home From Old Camper

Sometimes building a tiny home from scratch is just too much work or too expansive, which is why creative solutions are always welcome. That’s exactly what North Carolina couple Julia Fowler and her boyfriend came up with. They turned a 1984 Fleetwood Prowler, which is a fifth-wheel model camper that fits over a truck, into a cozy tiny home which they plan to take on the road soon. (more…)
