BrickBox is a Flat Pack Plywood Bookshelf

This is an inventive design for a shelf/storage solution that fits the occasion.  Called BrickBox, the modular system is designed and manufactured in Barcelona by Antxon Salvador and Roger Zanni.  BrickBox can be used for storage — assemble and stack — or transport — pack and grab a handle — and comes in two sizes: 10.6″ x 10.6″ x 14.2″ (small) and 21.3″ x 10.6″ x 14.2″ (large).  Fair Companies featured the design in a recent video, which could help propel the company outside of Europe and into the U.S.  BrickBox is searching for an American distributor right now.  Pricing is between ~$40 – $60 per box.

Hive-Inspired, Eco-Friendly Hex Shelving

Housefish, a modular furniture company based in Denver, Colorado, conceived a new shelf design with inspiration from a beehive.  Called Hex Modular Shelving, each shelf is made with custom aluminum extrusions that are light, strong, and hexagonal.  The extrusions are then paired with FSC-certified, zero-VOC finish, maple plywood boards to create a strong and contemporary piece of furniture.

Simple, Modular, Green Yube Cubes

If you’re on a furniture budget and want dead simple storage, perhaps a modular Yube would do the trick.  Each 13″-cubed Yube assembles in a jiff with snap-together sides, steel-frame locks, and corner clips.  The panels are made from sugar cane waste fibers (biodegradable and compostable), while the frame is made of a blend of plastic and bamboo (recyclable).  Yubes can be used as garage storage, a coffee table, a tv stand or anything else.  Cubes sell for about $30 each.
