The American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) has a concept for the future of senior housing and it's going to be built for the association's annual meeting in Los Angeles later this year.  The 2,600 square-foot Idea House, designed by the Atlanta office of THW Design, will feature the latest in innovation, universal design, and sustainability.

Green Inside and Out in the Valley

This modern home, designed by David Wick of Wick Architecture and Design, sits on a narrow urban lot in San Fernando Valley.  Energy Star and Build It Green certified, the 4,000 square foot residence was built with an ICF basement, FSC certified wood framing, radiant barrier roof paneling, low-VOC caulks and sealants, a cool roof, a permeable driveway, and cedar siding that also provides some shading.

Platinum Near Net Zero Energy in VA

By looking at the real estate listing for this home, you wouldn’t necessarily get the whole story.  This 3,600 square-foot house has four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, not to mention a wine cellar, media room, and detached two-car garage.  What you won’t see is that it’s also a low-energy home and vying for LEED Platinum certification — the highest designation available from the USGBC — according to the Washington Examiner.

Marin Gets a Platinum Hillside House

This home is the first LEED Platinum home in Marin, according to the Marin Blog of the San Francisco Chronicle.  It was designed by SB Architects and built by McDonald Construction & Development, the same firm behind the LEED Platinum Margarido House.  The rich and contemporary residence spans four levels on a hill and incorporates a number of green elements, such as:

Ideabox Launches Urban Series Prefabs

It seems like the winter is when prefab companies tinker with offerings.  For example, Blu Homes just launched Evolution, Rocio Romero launched the stackable LV2, PieceHomes launched extraPieces, and LivingHomes launched wood frame construction nationally.  Ideabox, an Oregon-based prefab company that recently launched the new Fortino, is revamping their lineup with the new Urban Series.

Ultra Efficient, Affordable, and Platinum

G•O Logic, a design-build collaboration of architect Matthew O’Malia and builder Alan Gibson, has been working on a prototype home with considerable aspirations.  When complete, Gibson and O’Malia hope the net-zero energy home receives both Passive House and LEED Platinum certification.  The Belfast home has about 1,500 square feet of space and could go on the market for a price as low as $225,000, according to The Maine Public Broadcasting Network.
