NOLA Gets Platinum Style Float Home

In the past few weeks, the Brad Pitt Make It Right foundation in New Orleans has been blanketed with all sorts of good press.  The USGBC declared Make It Right to be the "largest and greenest single family community in the world."  One of the newest homes in this green community is the FLOAT House by Morphosis Architects, which was designed and built under the direction of Thom Mayne and with the help of numerous UCLA graduate students.  The FLOAT House is a prototype for prefab affordable housing that is adaptable to flood zones worldwide.

Platinum Again for New World Home

A few months after receiving LEED Platinum in Georgia, New World Home has now received Platinum certification for this home in Youngsville, New York.  It's the first manufactured home in New York to receive the certification and the first home of any type in the state to receive the same level of certification without needing solar panels, wind turbines, or a geothermal system.  Like the Georgia home, this one accomplishes the task with non-exotic things like tight construction, efficient mechanicals, and green materials.

LEED Platinum for Rowhouse Rehab?

Southern Liberties, LLC, recently completed a massive overhaul of this Philadelphia rowhouse and documented the process on the blog, Building Green on Montrose.  The 100-year old, 1,850 square foot home now has three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, and the owners hope to obtain LEED Platinum certification for their efforts.  It’s listed for sale at $565,000 and incorporates some of the following green strategies:
