LEED Platinum Condos at Primera Terra

KB Home recently unveiled one of the largest communities of LEED Platinum homes in Playa Vista, California.  Called Primera Terra, the community has 52 luxury condos certified to green building standards and each home will have an Energy Performance Guide sticker.  These homes are about 40% more efficient than Title 24 standards and could cost as low as $57 per month on heating and cooling.

Prefab LivingHomes Complete in Los Altos

Santa Monica-based LivingHomes is doing great things with factory-built homes designed by elite architects. They built the first LEED Platinum home in the country and have since certified about 8 more Platinum-level prefabs in various places. Not satisfied with only single family homes, the company has been working on this 3-unit multifamily project in Los Altos, which is also shooting for Platinum certification.

The Power Haus -22 HERS Index Home

The ‘Power Haus’ by Josh Wynne Construction in Sarasota, Florida has achieved the lowest HERS rating on record in the U.S., a negative 22, with an elegant, well-crafted design. Earning 118 LEED points the home is just shy of also becoming the highest scoring LEED home in the country by 1.5 points to the Helenowski Residence in Chicago, which holds the highest known score at 119.5.

Near NZE Morning Sun Home in Oregon

This is Morning Sun, a near net-zero energy home completed at the end of December 2009 for owners Doug and Emily Boleyn.  The high-performance abode — designed by Matthew Daby of m.o. daby design llc and built by Cellar Ridge Custom Homes — received LEED Platinum certification, Oregon High Performance Home certification, and an Energy Performance Score of 31, making it one of the most decorated green projects in Happy Valley.

Ellis Residence Has a Lush Green Roof

Seattle has its fair share of LEED Platinum homes, but this is the first LEED Platinum single-family home in the state of Washington outside of Seattle.  The Bainbridge Island home, blending style and sustainability, was designed by Coates Design Architects for owners Ed and JoAnne Ellis, who wanted an exemplary, modern, green home.

HGTV Green Home Earns LEED Platinum

This year’s HGTV Green Home is in the popular Stapleton infill development of Denver, Colorado.  The New Urbanist community features nothing but Energy Star homes that are about 30% more energy efficient than standard homes and 20% more water efficient than typical Denver households.  But the HGTV Green Home 2011 steps things up a notch with a LEED Platinum certified project — it’s one of about 40 in the state.
