CalStar Intros New Permeable Paver

CalStar Products, maker of award-winning fly ash bricks, this week announced a new paver that can be used in LEED projects in order to obtain credits for recycled content, regional materials, and stormwater design.  The paver, which is suitable for intense uses such as parking lots, alleys, crosswalks, and plazas, is made with 40% post-industrial recycled material and comes in several different colors.

Solar LED Products for Home Projects

Texas-based Solar Lights Factory just opened an online store with various solar LED products — pavers, cylinders, and icebergs — intending to make them available to regular consumers at an approachable price.  The paver costs $40 each; the cylinder costs $50 each; and the iceberg starts at $15 each.  Each product is self-contained and, with some creativity, can be used for landscapes, gardens, decks, pathways, driveways, and patios, etc.

Plus Plus Pavers from Meld USA

North Carolina-based Meld USA, maker of ecoX and Micro, launched a new paver called Plus Plus.  The cement paver is available in six standard colors, as well as nearly limitless custom colors, and made with up to 74% recycled content.  Also, to minimize the environmental impact of manufacturing, Plus Plus is “wet cast, air cured, and form finished,” according to Architect Magazine.  Meld’s paver can be used in any garden, driveway, or patio.

VAST’s New Recycled Content Paver

Our last article on VAST Pavers generated substantial discussion in the comments.  The company makes composite masonry with roughly 90-95% recycled scrap tire rubber and plastics.  The pavers are light, durable, and apply in a cinch once the proprietary grid has been laid.  Up until recently, VAST has been expanding business with a 3″x6″ paver, but now they also have a new 4″x8″ paver that was designed with larger projects in mind.

A Permeable Solution with Drivable Grass

California-based Soil Retention is behind a product, Drivable Grass, that many of you may be interested in.  The name is somewhat of a misnomer, because, as you will see below, the infill doesn’t have to be grass.  It can be gravel of various kinds, too.  Drivable Grass is a flexible product that can be used as a substitute for concrete and asphalt driveways, patios, parking lots, RV pads, boat ramps, and the like.

Light, Durable, Recycled Content Pavers

There’s a paver out there, the Vast Paver, that’s been showing up on HGTV, the Today Show, and Renovation Nation.  It’s probably because the composite paver is made from roughly 90-95% recycled scrap tire rubber and plastics — every 1,000 square-feet of pavers saves 500 tires and 15,000 plastic containers from landfills!  These durable pavers work in a number of situations, including for low-volume traffic, driveways, walkways, rooftops, decks, and patios.  Colors include redwood, boardwalk, village, waterwheel, polo, and olive (below).
