Student Couple Build Tiny Home to Climb Out of Debt

There are many reasons why people choose to downsize and move to a tiny home, though mostly these reasons stem from financial concerns to some degree. This was also at the core of the decision to build and move to a tiny home for student couple Jess and Dan Sullivan of Burrillville, Rhode Island. They built their tiny home from primarily wood, and used a lot of repurposed and recycled materials to finish it up. They also made it off-the-grid to avoid further costs.

Super Affordable Off Grid Tiny Home in Hawaii

This gorgeous tiny home in one of the most beautiful places in the world, namely Hawaii, was built by tiny house builder and dressmaker Kristie Wolfe from Boise, Idaho. A few years ago she built another tiny home, called Tiny House on the Prairie, in which she has been living in since. The money she saved by downsizing has now allowed her to build this second, off-the-grid tiny home, which she plans to use as primarily a vacation home.

Fuel Cells to Heat and Power Homes

When looking into off-the-grid heating and power sources for the home, those interested might soon be getting a new option. The Dresden, Germany-based Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS) has joined forces with the heater manufacturer Vaillant and together they have come up with a domestic fuel cell system, which uses natural gas to produce both heat and electricity.
