The First Passive House in North Carolina

This home is officially the first Passive House in North Carolina.  It’s also the first Passive House in the country built out of concrete, according to Chris Senior, certified Passive House consultant and owner of Anchorage Building Corp., the builder.  Senior said his company was able to keep construction costs “surprisingly reasonable” by fashioning the entire exterior from concrete.

Three Modern Chicken Coops by Studio H

Students in Studio H, a design-build program for high school students in Bertie County, North Carolina, recently completed their second major project.  The project required the design and construction of three, unique, full-scale, chicken coops to house six chickens each.  Students had a budget of $500 per coop, but they also incorporated reclaimed and repurposed materials.  Here are the chicken coop designs:

Round, Green, Efficient: Deltec Prefabs

I like to watch the prefab world closely, but there’s one company that I haven’t mentioned yet.  That company, Deltec Homes, pops up in the news every other week or so.  Indeed, I noticed these homes are selling well in Canada, according to the National Post, and folks in Florida like that the round homes hold up in powerful hurricane weather, according to Wink News.
