Prefab Home Suitable for Hurricane Prone Areas

The prefab homebuilder Cubicco of Florida just released a new version of their flatpack homes, which the company claims are sturdy enough to withstand hurricane winds of up to 180 mph. Prefab flatpack homes are great since they can easily be transported to anywhere on the back of a truck, while the Cubicco homes go one step further in that they can be fitted with a number of sustainable technologies so the owner can potentially take them off-the-grid.

MiniHouse Grows Up into a Real Home

Mini House was developed as a collaboration between architect and designer Jonas Wagell and the Swedish house producer Sommarnöjen, and could be used as a cabin or guest house. Due to its success, the company has now developed Mini House 2.0, which could conceivably become a true family home. And the best thing about it is the speed with which in can be built.

Passive Home That Can be Assembled as Easily as Legos

Multipod Studio, a French architectural firm, recently made the first prototype of a sustainable, lightweight, and recyclable modular passive home. Once they are finished testing it, they will begin selling these affordable and very efficient homes. This home is called Pop-Up House, which is a pretty apt name, since it can be assembled in just four days using only an electric screwdriver.

Multi Volume Boxes That Can Instantly Transform Any Room Into an Apartment

Wouldn’t it be great to have a whole apartment at the snap of your fingers? Turns out you can, sort of. The Portugal-based design firm OODA has come up with innovative, unique free standing volumes, which can turn any room into a home, and can be folded down into a box for transport. OODA has recently transformed derelict buildings in the city of Porto into affordable accommodations for tourists and seasonal foreign students, by using these volumes.

Green Family Home Built in the Suburbs of Paris

The firm Djuric Tardio Architectes built a green, prefab family home, which is located in Antony-Paris, France. The home blends in nicely with the surrounding houses in this old neighborhood, yet still boasts a number of very sustainable and modern features. The two-story family home measures around 808 square feet (246 square meters) and is built using only wood panels.

Awesome Tiny House Designed in South Africa

Tiny homes can quickly turn out too cramped, resulting in claustrophobia. But when done right, these houses are a great way to live sustainably and affordably. The latest example of tiny home architecture done right comes from South Africa in the form of the lifePOD, designed by a team of architects called Collaborate000. They were assisted by product designers Dokter and Missses.
