Easy to Build Modular Home

ext

The Chinese firm People’s Architecture Office (PAO) has created yet another ingenious home design, which proves yet again that houses don’t need to be hard to build, and that it doesn’t need to take a long time to construct them. The so-called Plugin Tower pictured above would be delivered to the build site it a kit made up of modular parts that the future inhabitant just needs to put together. The homes are easy to construct, and easy to take apart and move to a new location if needed. (more…)

Clever Small Apartment Transformation

shelving

It’s been awhile since we covered small apartment living, but this one deserves a mention. The apartment is located in Bordeaux, France and the renovation was carried out by architect Elodie Gaschard of Atelier Miel and Michaël Martins Alfonso.

The apartment measures only 484 square feet (45 sq m), and the architects first created a series of storage solutions, and built-in furniture pieces, with the aim of getting rid of the clutter, which so often plagues small spaces. They also designed a clever transformer piece of furniture, which allows for the space to be sub-divided in a meaningful way, while still connecting the separate areas of the apartment. (more…)

Shipping Container Home That is Easy to Move

int

The trend of building shipping container homes seems to be slowing down, but that doesn’t mean it’s going away. There are many benefits of converting containers into homes, one of them being their mobility. And this creation by boat builder Evans really takes advantage of this, since he designed the home so that it is easy to move.

Evans used a 20-foot shipping container to build his home, but it is not one of the standard ones which can be obtained cheaply at most larger ports. This one has a reinforced roof, and doors along the side wall, and costs around $4000 to purchase. Since it already had a large opening on the side, he left it intact for the project and only concentrated on the interior. (more…)
