Sustainable Living in one of the Harshest Climates in the World

Think it isn’t possible to live comfortably off-the-grid in the Arctic Circle? Well, think again. Because the Hjertefølgers, a family of six, have been doing it for three years now, and they’re absolutely loving it. What’s more, they live in a geodesic dome that’s paned in glass, so they also have majestic views from their house. UK Town to Get World’s Most Sustainable Tower

The town of Hemel Hempstead, which is located about 24 miles from London, UK, might soon be home to the world’s most sustainable residential tower. The proposed building is called The Beacon and it will house luxury sustainable apartments. It will also feature on-site renewable energy generation and several energy conservation technologies. Judging by the renders, it will also be gorgeous. It was designed by the firm Wardman Brown.

Conversion of a Micro Apartment Into a Cozy Home

Turning micro spaces into cozy apartments seems to be the answer to the housing crisis in many cities across the world. With the help of transformer furniture and multipurpose units that’s not very hard to do. The latest such successful transformation was recently completed in Milan, Italy. Naturally Cooled Concrete House

The Vietnamese firm Vo Trong Nghia Architects recently completed the so-called Binh House in Ho Chi Minh City. While it is made of concrete, which is not the most sustainable material, they have found a way to cool it naturally. It also has many plants softening up its façade, which makes it a welcome island of greenery within the city. The firm is planning to build other such houses as part of their House for Trees series.
