Wood-Panel Passivhaus in British Columbia

Marken Projects is working on another Passive House in British Columbia.  This 3,500-square-foot home, made with a panelized prefab system like the Rainbow Duplex, will house two families and three generations under the same roof in Surrey, British Columbia.  The aim is an affordable structure that uses 90% less energy for heating and cooling than a standard home.  It’ll have triple-pane windows, an HRV, solar hot water, rainwater harvesting, no-VOC materials, and the ultra-efficient and airtight shell.   Construction will take about five months, and I’ll provide an update with more detail at that time.

Passivhaus Rainbow Duplex in Whistler

This is a follow-up with new photos to our original coverage of an affordable Passive House duplex located near an affluent ski resort in British Columbia.  Referred to as the Rainbow Duplex, the home was designed by Marken Projects and built by Durfield Constructors with a high-performance, panelized prefab system by BC Passive House.

Affordable Passive House in Whistler

This is an ultra-efficient project that recently broke ground in Whistler, British Columbia.  It’s interesting and innovative on many different levels.  First, the Whistler Passive House Duplex has to meet affordability requirements as part of the Whistler Resident Housing Initiative.  Second, the project team is pursuing Passive House for both homes.  Third, the project will be built with a unique panelized prefabricated wall system.
