Belles Townhomes, a new residential project in the Presidio, recently took home LEED Platinum certification, according to a press release by LivingHomes. Designed by KieranTimberlake, the seven-unit multifamily community will open for leasing later this year. Belles Townhomes overlooks shared green space and was developed by Forest City in partnership with The Presidio Trust.
I imagine you've heard the news this week from LivingHomes' headquarters in Santa Monica. All LivingHomes, whether designed by Ray Kappe or KieranTimberlake, are now available throughout most of the United States. In addition, the company — a pioneer in green prefab — announced a new prefab home model designed by Ray Kappe and wood-frame construction on all Kappe LivingHomes.
Architect Ray Kappe designed the first (and now iconic) LivingHome in Santa Monica, and now, he has a new multifamily design that LivingHomes will prefabricate for a site in Los Altos, California. The project includes three attached units, of which, two units will have three bedrooms and three bathrooms and one unit will have one bedroom and one bathroom. One of the units will be owner occupied, one will be low-income, and the other will be a standard rental. All of them will be green.
I thought it'd be fun to share some actual photos of the BUILDER LivingHome, since up until now, we've only been showing renderings. The home was designed by KieranTimberlake, built by LivingHomes, and assembled in about three days on the IBS exhibit floor. Can you imagine putting together an entire house in that time? I picture Steve Glenn running around with a megaphone, Ty Pennington style, shouting, "We only have four hours, people!" The modular modern home was designed to meet LEED Platinum certification and includes 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms comprising roughly 2,466 square feet.
A Showcase of the Best in Sustainability, Technology, and Design. Plans are in motion on the first-ever WIRED LivingHome, a modern, luxury residence that will attain at least a Gold rating under the LEED for Homes Program by the USGBC. Located in an exclusive, modernist home community of Los Angeles called Crestwood Hills, the large 4,057 sf WIRED LivingHome is set to be finished by Fall 2007.
This week’s edition of BusinessWeek has a feature on LivingHomes and entrepreneur Steve Glenn, founder of the company. Glenn is a leader in the growing movement that is green prefab — modern, prefabricated homes built with sustainability in mind. The BusinessWeek feature also includes a slide show of the first LEED-H Platinum certified home in the country, and some of photos are pictured above and below.
