The River Den was built by owner Bonnie and her friend Denis Tremblay, since she wanted a tiny home that could easily be moved. Her ancestors were log-drivers who spent most of their time on the river, so opting for a houseboat was a natural choice for her. Tiny Paris Apartment Reborn

It’s getting harder and harder to find adequate and affordable living spaces in big cities across the world, so it’s really nice to see all the ingenious solutions people are coming up with to solve these problems. Modular Home Made of Cardboard

Nido House is yet another pretty tiny home made from cardboard, a building material that seems to be catching on lately. This home can function off-the-grid, since it’s equipped with a solar power system and a rainwater recovery system, among other things, and it is available in various sizes and designs. It was created by Italian architect Francesca Fadalti and her business partner Michela Romano. (more…)

Shopping Mall Going Solar

The Stockland Wendouree Shopping Centre in Victoria, Australia is using solar-concentrating thermal technology as the sole source of power for their air-conditioning system. Given that a lot of the power consumed by shopping malls, and other such large commercial structures is down to heating and cooling, this is quite a beneficial and sustainable move, and one that more business owners should consider. Gorgeous Furniture Made from Recycled Plastic

The design firm Reform Studio from Cairo, Egypt has come up with a brilliant way to upcycle plastic bags. They are turning them into beautiful furniture using Egyptian handlooms and traditional techniques. The aim of the people behind the project is to find ways in which modern design can be used to solve the world’s problems, one of which is certainly the alarming surplus of plastic bags discarded every day. And what’s more, through their project they are keeping alive Egypt’s rapidly disappearing traditional practice of hand weaving. (more…)
