Tents are one of the oldest forms of shelter in the world, and architect Hiroshi Nakamura and NAP studio of Japan were inspired to recreate it in a more permanent way. The finished product is a weekend home for an eco-conscious couple and resembles a set of tipis erected under the canopies in a wooded area of the Nasu district of the Tochigi prefecture in Japan.

Biobattery That Can Supply Various Types of Energy

The prototype of a promising biobattery has recently been developed by researchers at the German Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Energy and Safety Technology. The battery they developed is actually a highly efficient biogas plant which is capable of transforming different types of organic raw materials, such as straw, scrap wood and sludge into different energy sources like electricity, purified gas and engine oil.

Innovative Off-The-Grid Mobile Home

Gerhard Feldbacher, a designer from Austria, has just launched a small home, which can easily be moved around on a whim, though it is not a true mobile home. He’s calling his invention Simple Home, and it is designed to rest atop four legs which allows the home to be easily installed in the desired location without the need for hoists, cranes or other heavy machinery. And perhaps, best of all, the Simple Home can be taken off-the-grid.

Small Passive House Can be Built in Just 10 Days

Castlemaine Passivhaus, designed by the Australian architecture firm Carbonlite, was recently awarded the stringent Passive House certification, though the home is far from your typical building to meet this standard. Another Promising Pop-Up Apartment Solution

The recently introduced Cubitat is another instant apartment solution. It was designed by the Canadian architectural firm Urban Capital and Italian designer Luca Nichetto. The Cubitat cube measures 10 x 10 x 10 feet (3 x 3 x 3 m) and features a kitchen, bedroom, lounging and entertainment area, bathroom, laundry and storage space.
