Ibuku, a team of designers and builders headed by Elora Hardy in Bali make houses out of bamboo, one of the most sustainable, versatile and strongest materials available. Eco-Friendly Timber and Metal Prefabs

The Ecoshelta is a modular building system designed by architect Stephen Sainsbury of Canberra, Australia. It comprises a system of corrugated aluminum panels over a timber frame, which enables the construction of buildings that can be scaled up or down, added to, and which are easy to assemble and disassemble, so they can be relocated easily, while also being robust and durable.

Luxurious and Sustainable Hotel

Sandibe Okavango is an eco-hotel, which was recently constructed on a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. It is sustainable from the ground up and clearly demonstrates that comfort and luxury does not necessarily need to the sacrificed for sustainability.

Easy DIY Furniture

Designers Maria Roca and Erika Biarnes of the firm Be-elasticto from Barcelona, Spain, created an innovative set of metal clips, which can be clipped on to any type of flat material to create a table, or another type of flat piece of furniture. The creation is called Snap and at first glance resembles oversized paper clips. (more…)

Dune House Blends In

Dune House is located on the Terschelling island in Holland and was designed by Marc Koehler Architects. It stands on the beach and blends in perfectly with the surrounding dunes and tufts of grass. The home is also eco-friendly and sustainable.

Awesome Office Conversion Using Pallets

Pallets are sturdy and abundant, and therefore a great material for upcycling to meet a number of architecture and design needs. A Tokyo based firm Hiroki Tominaga Atelier recently used them in a unique office space renovation. What’s more, they were able to do so without the end result looking like a DIY project.
