Oregon-based Ideabox has been on the prefab scene doing their thing in the Pacific Northwest for a long time now. I’ve mentioned several of their homes and look forward to sharing a few newsworthy articles here in the next couple months. As a preview, I thought I’d share a new design of the company — the Minibox. It’s a 200 square-foot tiny house with a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom/living area. Ideabox was invited to participate in this year's NW Natural Street of Dreams in Portland to show how compact living, when well designed, can be luxurious at the same time. The eco prefab on display the entire month is about 20% the size of the largest home on the block, yet it has everything one could ask for *and* an approachable price tag.
It seems like the winter is when prefab companies tinker with offerings. For example, Blu Homes just launched Evolution, Rocio Romero launched the stackable LV2, PieceHomes launched extraPieces, and LivingHomes launched wood frame construction nationally. Ideabox, an Oregon-based prefab company that recently launched the new Fortino, is revamping their lineup with the new Urban Series.
Ideabox's newest prefab model, the Fortino, is on display at the Portland Home & Garden Show this weekend, so you'll want to check it out if you're in the area. The Salem-based prefab company teamed up with Crate & Barrel to design the interior and several landscape designers to transform a 50'x100' show space into a contemporary landscape setting. Jim Russell, president of Ideabox, says it's a complete "living experience" on an urban lot.
We’ve mentioned Ideabox several times over the years, and their new offering, the Fortino, has to be one my favorites. The Fortino was on display at the Seattle Home Show 2, although, unfortunately, there was a huge pole at the show obstructing photos. You’ll have to imagine the Fortino in a well-manicured, xeriscaped setting on the lot of your choosing. Something like 30,000 people saw the Fortino in Seattle, and Jim Russell, founder of Ideabox, tells me the response was incredible.
