Modular Home Made of Cardboard


Nido House is yet another pretty tiny home made from cardboard, a building material that seems to be catching on lately. This home can function off-the-grid, since it’s equipped with a solar power system and a rainwater recovery system, among other things, and it is available in various sizes and designs. Gorgeous Furniture Made from Recycled Plastic


The design firm Reform Studio from Cairo, Egypt has come up with a brilliant way to upcycle plastic bags. They are turning them into beautiful furniture using Egyptian handlooms and traditional techniques. The aim of the people behind the project is to find ways in which modern design can be used to solve the world’s problems, one of which is certainly the alarming surplus of plastic bags discarded every day. And what’s more, through their project they are keeping alive Egypt’s rapidly disappearing traditional practice of hand weaving. (more…)

Unique Way to Bring Nature into Your Home


Wouldn’t it be nice to have a relaxing green oasis right in your living room, which you could retreat to whenever you wished to, come rain or shine? Well, now you can…sort of. Alexandra Kehayoglou makes rugs, which are designed to resemble and feel like lush nature scenes. Unique Idea For Solving Urban Housing Shortage


Architect Stéphane Malka of Paris, France, has come up with a unique and quite ambitious idea of creating new housing in his city. The system he proposes calls for prefabricated units to be added onto the existing building. This system is called “3box” and apart from creating additional livable space in this metropolis, it would also be more economical since there would be no land costs associated with it. (more…)

3D Printed House and Car Share Energy


Architects from the firm SOM, in collaboration with the University of Tennessee and researchers from the US Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory have come up with an innovative tiny home design, which is based on the concept of “integrated energy”. The home is called Additive Manufacturing Integrated Energy Structure, or AMIE 1.0 and it is a 3D printed house that comes with it’s own 3D printed SUV to transport it around. (more…)

Affordable Homes Built From Plastic Waste


The Mexican company EcoDomum has come up with a unique and very sustainable way of providing affordable housing for the less fortunate. They are manufacturing roofs and wall panels using discarded plastic, which they use to build homes with the help of a local housing programs. The end result is a large number of sustainable homes measuring about 430 sq ft that only cost around $280 each. (more…)
