Ekocenters Made of Shipping Containers Bringing Clean Water to Areas in Need

In late 2013, Coca Cola in partnership with several global and local organizations, began deploying so-called Ekocenters, which are primarily mobile clean water sources. These Ekocenters are build out of shipping containers and their main aim is purifying water and delivering it to developing communities across the world with a special focus on groups within the Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP), which is the largest, and also poorest socio-economic group in the world, comprised of about 4 billion people living on less than $2 a day.

Ricola’s Headquarters Now Made of Mud

It’s always nice to see large companies acting responsibly and it is even nicer to see them building their business headquarters sustainably. Ricola, the makers of herbal cough drops from Switzerland, have recently unveiled a new herb processing center that is build out of mud. The work was carried out by Herzog & de Meuron, and the walls of the center were made out of rammed earth under the watchful eye of Martin Rauch of Lehm Ton Erde (Loam Clay Earth). The building will be used for the drying, cutting, blending and storing the herbs as part of the production of the cough drops.
