Ricola’s Headquarters Now Made of Mud

It’s always nice to see large companies acting responsibly and it is even nicer to see them building their business headquarters sustainably. Ricola, the makers of herbal cough drops from Switzerland, have recently unveiled a new herb processing center that is build out of mud. The work was carried out by Herzog & de Meuron, and the walls of the center were made out of rammed earth under the watchful eye of Martin Rauch of Lehm Ton Erde (Loam Clay Earth). The building will be used for the drying, cutting, blending and storing the herbs as part of the production of the cough drops.

Sustainable San Francisco Home is Turning Green

Not long ago the San Francisco firm Fougeron Architecture designed and built a high-end home along the Northern California coastline. The place is called Fall House, and its most notable feature is certainly the façade, which is made of copper. It’s a little similar to a shipping container home, while Fall House also boasts of a number of other sustainable features. It will also literally turn green due to the exposure of the copper façade to the elements. The side that is not clad in copper is all glass and offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.

The Georgia-based architect Dachi Papuashvili recently shared his plans to construct a tiny home using two shipping containers. He is calling this house The Skit and he plans for it to be shaped like a cross, with one of the shipping containers standing vertically and the other traversing it perpendicularly.

A Bar Made of Shipping Containers Opens in Austin

Container Bar

The Container Bar, so named because it is made entirely of recycled shipping containers has recently opened its doors in Austin, Texas. The bar was designed and built by North Arrow Studio in collaboration with Henley | Knowles Design Studio and the project took about three years to be fully realized.
