Nichiha Unveils Recycled-Content Shake

Nichiha makes a premium shake siding called Sierra but they’ve just unveiled a new fiber-cement shake for those looking for something similar at a lower price point.  Available in July 2011, NichiFrontier is made in Macon, Georgia with 50% recycled content and comes primed or stained in four colors (Hazelnut, Prairie, Shadow, and Terra).  The finish has a 15-year warranty, while the product has a limited lifetime warranty.  NichiFrontier resembles cedar shake and comes in boards of 7/16″ x 9 -1/4″ x 8′.

Prefab ADU Think Tank Built in Savannah

This is a prefab design by Phoenix-based ASUL — which stands for adaptable system for universal living — and CSCP Consult in Savannah, Georgia. The tiny accessory dwelling unit has a 16′ x 20′ interior and is used by CSCP Consult as a “Think Tank,” or office, library, and study. The ADU, as shown below, is adjacent to a restored mid-century modern home and rests on 6-foot stilts to comply with FEMA flood zone requirements.

Bazzèo in a Kitchen Preservation Project

Earlier this month, the Historic Savannah Foundation gave a preservation award to a 54-year old, mid-century modern home in Savannah, Georgia.  We were able to get some detail and photos of the kitchen renovation aspect from Bazzèo, a New Jersey-based manufacturer of green kitchen and bath cabinets.  The design retained the original kitchen layout, but water-damaged kitchen and bath cabinets were replaced.

Prairie Style Remodel Earns Green Award

This whole-home remodel by Renewal Design-Build is the recipient of several awards, including a regional CotY award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) and a Chrysalis Award for Best Green Remodeling Project.  Located in Decatur, Georgia, the original 1930s, 900 square-foot home was mostly deconstructed to the foundation and a new, 2,100 square-foot home was built from the salvaged materials.

Solar Powered Green Home for Atlanta

Concourse E unveiled a new project concept this week for a corner lot in Atlanta, Georgia.  The luxurious, green project would have three bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and several spaces designed to facilitate gathering and relaxing.  If you’re in the area, the company will have a preview event this Thursday night to share more detail of the Wessyngton House.
