EarthCraft Platinum Modern in Georgia

Farmhouse Modern HGTV Home in Georgia

This is the newest HGTV Green Home located in Serenbe, Georgia, a 1,000-acre sustainable development near Atlanta with green homes, shops, and restaurants.  The 2,300 square-foot home spans three levels and includes three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and a detached garage and carport.  Plus, it will be powered in part by solar energy and obtain both EarthCraft and LEED Certifications.

Lori-Quint Platinum Home in Georgia

This is the first LEED Platinum home in Athens.  Designed by Lori Bork Newcomer, principal of Bork Architectural Design, Inc., the 2,632 square-foot home blends native materials to maintain neighborhood context and contemporary design to suit the aesthetics of owners Lori and Quint Newcomer.  Lori and Quint self-contracted the build for about $125 per square foot and, perhaps more impressively, the home uses about the same amount of energy as one a third the size.

1955 MCM Home a Best Green House

This mid-century modern home in Savannah, Georgia — originally developed by John Ahern in 1955 — was recently listed as a Best Green House in Green Source Magazine.  The home went through a full restoration and renovation directed by owners Cornelia Stumpf and Celestino Piralla of CSCP Consult, who ended up receiving a Silver Award for a Whole House Renovation under $200,000 from Qualified Remodeler Magazine and the President’s Award from the Historic Savannah Foundation in summer 2011.

Net-Zero i-House Open for Tours in Georgia

There’s some great homes across the country being finished with the first i-House design.  This one, for instance, was built on a lot in Green Bridge Farm, an eco-friendly development of 25 lots in Effingham County, Georgia.  Owner Charles Davis won’t have an electric bill with this net-zero energy home.  His butterfly roof has solar PV that generates electricity and powers a brand new Chevrolet Volt (pictured below).

Nichiha Unveils Recycled-Content Shake

Nichiha makes a premium shake siding called Sierra but they’ve just unveiled a new fiber-cement shake for those looking for something similar at a lower price point.  Available in July 2011, NichiFrontier is made in Macon, Georgia with 50% recycled content and comes primed or stained in four colors (Hazelnut, Prairie, Shadow, and Terra).  The finish has a 15-year warranty, while the product has a limited lifetime warranty.  NichiFrontier resembles cedar shake and comes in boards of 7/16″ x 9 -1/4″ x 8′.
