Reclaimed Barn Wood that is FSC Certified

If you like the look of reclaimed wood — and you might, it’s really popular right now — then Pioneer Millworks should be on your radar.  The company, located in Farmington, New York and McMinnville, Oregon, carries FSC certification for all of its reclaimed wood and has saved more than 21 million board feet of wood from barns, industrial buildings, and the like.  Pioneer Millworks has flooring, siding, paneling, timbers, etc, and it’s all nice stuff.  I could think about where to use these materials all day long.

Viridian Debuts New Reclaimed Oak Floor

Oregon-based Viridian Wood Products, a company we’ve mentioned in relation to reclaimed veneer panels and shipping pallet floors, just announced the debut of “American Classics.”  These are a new line of reclaimed red oak, white oak, and rustic oak floors derived from industrial shipping crates.

FSC-Certified Clamp Lamp on Your Desk

Check out this Clamp Lamp by Dana Cannam for manufacturer Pablo.  The woodsy light is made with FSC-certified maple, walnut, or white oak and latches on to your desk with two wooden fingers.  Light is provided with 108 LEDs that output between 700-1200 lumens at 3000 K for a 50,000 hour lifespan.  The light can be adjusted with a hi-low switch and is listed as using a mere 8 watts.  Clamp Lamp is pending Energy Star certification and sells for about $350-400.

Stratum is a Bamboo-Filled Surface Material

So, what do you get when you sandwich a plywood bamboo material called PlyBoo with two sheets of a paper-composite called RichliteStratum, a new countertop material made through a venture between Smith & Fong and Richlite Company.  The material was inspired by nature and the majestic basalt cliffs of Palouse Canyon in eastern Washington.

DuChateau Has a New FSC Floor Line

San Diego-based DuChateau Floors, maker of luxe natural flooring, just announced a new collection that replicates the popular look of reclaimed barn wood.  The Heritage Timber Edition is made with FSC-certified European white oak and then distressed with surface scrapes, nail holes, notches, and saw kerf marks reminiscent of salvaged textures.  Heritage has an environmentally friendly, zero-VOC, preservative-free, hard wax oil finish with planks of 7-7/16″ wide.  Pricing starts at $12 per square foot.

Accsys Unveils Hardened Accoya Alder

London and Dallas-based Accsys Technologies recently announced a new variant of the modified wood product Accoya, but this one is made with North American red alder.  The company puts wood through a proprietary acetylation process in whichwood molecules that want to bond with water are replaced with more stable acetyl groups.  This improves durability, hardness, water absorption, and dimensional stability.
