Gorgeous Solar Powered Lantern

Solar powered lamps are great, but they’re usually not pretty. That could be about to change very soon though. The Japanese company Sphelar Power Corporation has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to start exporting their so-called Lantern, a solar powered lamp that is designed to resemble an hourglass with lovely hardwood accents, which makes it perfect for any home. UK Town to Get World’s Most Sustainable Tower

The town of Hemel Hempstead, which is located about 24 miles from London, UK, might soon be home to the world’s most sustainable residential tower. The proposed building is called The Beacon and it will house luxury sustainable apartments. It will also feature on-site renewable energy generation and several energy conservation technologies. Judging by the renders, it will also be gorgeous. It was designed by the firm Wardman Brown.

A Tiny House Community Going Up in Colorado

The firm Sprout Tiny Homes will be building a 200 house community in Salida, Colorado. The houses will be available for rent, while there will also be a number of communal features such as a gym, a restaurant, and more. The tiny house community will be located on a 19-acre piece of land along the Arkansas River. Once completed it will be the largest tiny home community in the US, and the project recently got the go-ahead from the Salida city council.

Naturally Cooled Concrete House

The Vietnamese firm Vo Trong Nghia Architects recently completed the so-called Binh House in Ho Chi Minh City. While it is made of concrete, which is not the most sustainable material, they have found a way to cool it naturally. It also has many plants softening up its façade, which makes it a welcome island of greenery within the city. The firm is planning to build other such houses as part of their House for Trees series.

Residential Tower Will Encourage Residents to Grow Their Own Greens

The firm Studio Lokal from Denmark has unveiled plans to build a very interesting tower in Copenhagen. It will be located on the site of a former produce market, and for this reason the architects incorporated spacious balconies into the design, where each of the residents will be able to grown their own fruits and veggies.

Village of Sustainable Homes in Norway is Well Underway

Norway is getting the so-called Bygda 2.0, or Village 2.0, which is a new sustainable development in a rural, seaside area of Norway. The project will focus on developing modern Norwegian houses that will be sustainable, and will form a village of sorts, complete with spaces for doing businesses and research activities. As the people behind it say, “It will be a place to live, work and enjoy.”
