Cove Park is a cluster of buildings that can be used as retreats by artists of all media. It is located on the west coast of Scotland and was built out of recycled shipping containers. The complex stretches over 50 acres of beautiful, natural terrain, and all the shipping container units with a layer of grass to provide insulation and make them seem as one with the surrounding countryside.

This cool, and vividly colored guesthouse was designed by Studio ArTe. It is located in the Algarve region in Portugal and was built out of a single, repurposed shipping container. The owners of a nearby home commissioned architect Arnold Aarssen to build an affordable guesthouse on their property. He opted to use a shipping container to construct it, in order to keep the costs down while still offering a comfortable living quarters.

A few years ago the sustainable housing design firm Infiniski completed yet another awesome shipping container home. Located in CuracavÃ, Chile the Manifesto House is made from three recycled shipping containers, while it also boasts of a number of other sustainable features. Infiniski prides itself on designing and building homes made from at least 80 percent recycled, repurposed and non-polluting materials, which includes disused containers, as well as railway tracks, forklift palettes and even old bottles.

A British Columbia-based modular home company, BigSteelBox, has unveiled a series of temporary living quarters for workers made out of shipping containers. The housing was built to house Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) workers in a work camp and is designed to offer them all the comforts of home, while LNG carries out the new liquid natural gas projects in Northern B.C.

The Hong Kong-based architecture firm OVA Studio recently unveiled their plans for a so-called Hive-Inn, which is a hotel build from shipping containers. Their plans call for a structure, which can be added to or removed from by simply adding or removing the shipping container units at need, and in relation to current demand. Apart from serving as a hotel, the project would also have other applications, such as emergency relief housing or medical care units. In other words, the shipping container rooms can be shipped to any location and used for a variety of purposes.
