Home Renovation Completed With the Help of Salvaged Materials

Awhile back, architect Rolf Bruggink from Utrecht, Holland purchased a property on which stood an old, 1950s office building, and a coach house built in 1895. He planned to renovated the latter into a home, so he first demolished the office building. He salvaged a lot of materials from this demolition though, and reused them in the home renovation.

Rent an Earthship

Ever wonder what living in an Earthship home would be like? Well now you can rent one and find out. Terrasol is a mini-earthship, which was built as part of the eco-community called Terra Perma, and they are now renting it out. The community is located in Harrington, which is about two hours away from Montréal. As you probably already know, the Earthship home was first designed and built by US architect Michael Reynolds and it’s an easy to build home made out of rammed earth, recycled tires, and glass. The home utilizes passive solar heating to create a comfortable living environment. It also doesn’t require any special skills or equipment to built and is very sustainable. (more…)

Modern House Built Out of Repurposed Materials

Building on a triangle-shaped lot can be tricky, but the firm OOF! Architecture from Australia has found a great way to make it work. The so-called Acute House, which they recently completed in Melbourne is a great piece of modern design. It is wedge shaped and was partially constructed out of repurposed materials, which were left from the demolition of an old cottage that stood on the lot before. (more…)

Rent a Van Home to Test Van-Life

The newest trend in mobile homes seems to be converting a nondescript cargo van into a tiny home. While space is limited, a van home can be parked practically anywhere that a car can go. But converting a van into a home is not an easy task, nor is living out of one suitable for everyone. But now there’s a solution.
