California-based Fireclay Tile today announced a new collaboration with designer Kelly LaPlante to create a line of eco-friendly tile. The Runway Collection has four custom patterns inspired by fashion: Cravat, an interpretation of houndstooth, Chaine Femme, a nod to interlocking chains in jewelry and belts, Chaine Homme, a masculine version of Chaine Femme, and Corset, which is inspired by corsets and lace-ups on footwear.
Non-profit Homeward Bound of Marin and California-based Blu Homes recently announced a partnership to build an affordable housing project for homeless families in Marin County. The Oma Village project will replace a former drug and alcohol rehabilitation center with a community of 14 net-zero energy one- and two-bedroom homes.
This is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom LV-model home by Rocio Romero in Los Angeles, California. Originally built in 2008, the modern prefab will be the subject of an open house on November 3, 2012 (register here), and this is actually the first Rocio Romero open house in Los Angeles. Bryce and Bianca’s LV Series home has solar panels, a water catchment system, French oak floors, a walnut kitchen, a Viking range, walnut furniture, and a deck that runs the length of the home creating canyon and skyline views.
Blu Homes just announced a new prefab home design based on the famous Breezehouse, which was most recently featured by Sunset Magazine as the Idea House 2012. This is the eighth home design by the company, and it’s called Sidebreeze. The design features the same Breezespace with 12′ ceilings in parts, but there’s also a cantilevered second story with a master suite and balcony. This is a design that could be used when more space is needed or to take advantage of stunning views.

It’s 20% thinner and works in 95% of homes with low-voltage systems (including 2nd stage cooling, 3rd stage heating, dual fuel, emergency heat, and whole-home humidifiers and dehumidifiers), thanks to new hardware, improved software, more features, and more apps. Based on updated pricing, the first Nest is now selling for $229, as supplies last, and the new Nest is selling for $249, with first orders expected to ship on October 15, 2012.
As mentioned earlier this week, a new Blu Homes prefab will open for tours this weekend, September 15-16, 2012, in Joshua Tree, California. The home was built for Tim Disney with two Origin units and a separate guest unit. Each Origin unit, to give you a ballpark on the value of a home like this, starts at $135,000 in California, according to information on the Blu Homes website.
