Several years ago, the City of Santa Monica bought Mountain View Mobile Home Park in order to preserve it for affordable housing. The city upgraded the infrastructure and recently sent out an RFP to replace 20 travel trailers and mobile homes with more energy-efficient, safe, contemporary, manufactured homes. Santa Monica eventually awarded the contract to Golden West Homes in partnership with Marmol Radziner Prefab.
Tony Sarich, co-founder of American Modular Systems (manufacturer of Gen7 line of modular classrooms that we featured last year), plans to build an eco-friendly home and winery using what was learning developing Gen7. The new project is destined for wine country in Lodi, California and the winery, shown above, will be powered by solar panels and covered in reclaimed wood siding.
Fireclay Tile, a manufacturer of recycled content ceramic tiles in California, recently launched a new offering called the Express Series Quickship Tile. It’s made with more than 62% locally sourced recycled content and, according to the company, contains “more post-consumer and pre-consumer waste than any other tile on the market.”
