This is one of the latest sustainable prefab homes from Seattle-based Stillwater Dwellings. The home has three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and 2,300 square feet with a signature soaring butterfly roofline, a great room, and 360-degree views of Sauvie Island, Mount St. Helen, Mount Hood, and Mount Rainier. After solar panels are installed, the owners expect to submit paperwork in line with LEED Gold certification.
Today Stillwater Dwellings announced the completion of another green prefab, which is located in Southern Utah near Capitol Reef National Park. It’s a beautiful home that’s constructed to the same building codes as a typical home, but it’s not typical. In fact, this is an impressive case study of some of the benefits of off-site construction — construction in a controlled environment, preservation of the site by avoiding on-site construction, and use of prefabrication to overcome labor, costs, and site challenges.

The Seattle-based firm, founded by a seasoned builder and developer and architects formerly of the firm now known as Olson Kundig Architects, differentiates itself from others with a trademark soaring butterfly roofline, energy-efficient designs, sustainable materials, and a predictable construction budget.
Blu Homes is on a tear lining up projects and relaunching iconic homes such as the Glidehouse. This month, the Massachusetts-based start-up is “Perfecting an Icon” in the form of unveiling the new and improved Breezehouse. In fact, just barely into the relaunch, Blu already sold two of these homes and is working on a few more in the pipeline, according to Maura McCarthy, co-founder and VP of sales and marketing.
Bastyr University‘s new student village was named Outstanding Multifamily Project of 2010 by the USGBC. Located north of Seattle in Kenmore, the 11-building project was designed by CollinsWoerman and earned LEED Platinum certification. It’s estimated to save about 34% on energy costs, as compared to a non-green, similar project, and houses 132 students.
