Earlier this month, the Historic Savannah Foundation gave a preservation award to a 54-year old, mid-century modern home in Savannah, Georgia. We were able to get some detail and photos of the kitchen renovation aspect from Bazzèo, a New Jersey-based manufacturer of green kitchen and bath cabinets. The design retained the original kitchen layout, but water-damaged kitchen and bath cabinets were replaced.
American Express sampled 2,045 people (18+ years old) and learned that 64% of them will invest in renovation projects this year, according to a survey taken in the first week of March. These homeowners are only planning on spending about $3,400 — down from $6,200 last year — but 32% of folks with home improvement plans will look into green home improvements.
This whole-home remodel by Renewal Design-Build is the recipient of several awards, including a regional CotY award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) and a Chrysalis Award for Best Green Remodeling Project. Located in Decatur, Georgia, the original 1930s, 900 square-foot home was mostly deconstructed to the foundation and a new, 2,100 square-foot home was built from the salvaged materials.
