These are Greenway Townhouses designed by Arbor South Architecture and built by Arbor South Construction (the same group behind The Sage, a high-scoring LEED Platinum project in Eugene). Construction just barely finished, and Arbor South will now focus on renting the 11 units of about 950 square feet each. Greenway Townhouses have been certified Earth Advantage Platinum, according to Bill Randall, principal at Arbor South, and will target LEED Gold certification.
You may recall a practical green prefab by SMPLy Mod that we featured about a year ago. This duplex is by the same design firm, SMPL Design Studio (Joel Tanner), with new partners 9 Dot Engineering and Mod Home Developments. The team employed modular construction to finish the duplex at 133 Moyle, and the homes perform quite well for being so far north: they require 55% less energy for heating and power.
This is Avant Garage, a four-unit residential project by Postgreen Homes in Fishtown Proper. Designed by Interface Studio Architects, these homes are targeting LEED Platinum and Postgreen’s President Chad Ludeman tells me he can see no reason why they won’t achieve that level of certification (just like the 100k House which also took home the USGBC’s 2010 LEED-H Project of the Year). zHome is a contemporary, new, townhome development in Issaquah, Washington. The homes go on sale this month and have received national attention, such as in the video embedded below with the Wall Street Journal. Homes in this community will use zero net energy — after considering all energy used and produced during a year — and zHome may just be the first townhome project in the country to achieve such a feat.
Nove — Italian for nine — is a handsome nine-unit project in the Mission District of San Francisco. The green project features LEED Platinum certification and architectural design by Handel Architects. And, with purchase prices in the range of $975,000 – $1,600,000, eight of nine units have already sold and closed, according to Builder Magazine.
Notwithstanding the economy, I imagine there are folks in Manhattan that would drop $6.8 million on a green townhouse without batting an eyelash. Here’s such a place, now listed with Michael Pellegrino of Sotheby’s, that received a mention in the Wall Street Journal. The home includes 12 rooms, 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 15 closets, 2 laundry rooms, 1 wine cellar, and a personal elevator. It comes with LEED Gold certification.
