Owners Millie Leung and David Huang just broke ground on this modern green home in Washington.  "The Green Concept Home" is the first single-family home registered under LEED-H in Bellevue, and the owners hope to obtain Built Green certification, too.  David (of Modus V Studio) designed the home, and both Millie and David will direct its construction over the next year.  Here's the layout and what they're planning in terms of green elements:

St. Paul Home Created with Three Boxes

Hive-modular

All the prefab enthusiasts need to make sure to check out this Hive Modular home in St. Paul's historic Capitol Heights neighborhood.  The home and its owner, David Schmit, were profiled in Midwest Home, and the article provides an interesting glimpse into getting a prefab built.  Schmit bought the lot, sold his home, worked with Hive Modular on the design, worked with the local architectural planning board to get approvals, and finally worked with the city of St. Paul to get approvals.  It took some time and patience, too.

Green Container House in Houston

Cordell-house

Some of you may be tired of container homes, but this one, the Cordell House, is too interesting not to talk about.  Designed by Christopher Robertson and developed by Numen Development, L.P., it’s a 1,858 square-foot pad with three bedrooms and three bathrooms.  And in addition to being built with a number of green elements (described below), the developer was able to keep construction waste to a minimum with ten contractor trash bags total.

Video: Amory Lovins’ Super Green Home

In the mid-1980s, Amory Lovins, co-founder, chairman, and chief scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute, built an efficient, 4,000 square foot home in Colorado for living and working.  By today’s thinking, the home is a little larger than most greenies would prefer, but it was built to be 90% more efficient than a traditional home of its size.  That’s pretty impressive, especially at a time when the panels on the roof of the White House were being taken down for “repair.”

Old 1957 Home Gets a New Modern Look

001

Perched on the east side of the city is this renovated gem at 3602 Apollo.  I saw it a few months ago mid-renovation, and it's hard to miss: floating entry steps, dark mystical brick, expansive new windows, and a modern cedar fence.  Wow!  The home sits on a corner, and that deck provides captivating views of the surrounding mountains and downtown Salt Lake City.  Plus, it's for sale.
