I’m told this is the first net-zero energy home in Connecticut. Yes, this LEED Platinum project in Killingworth produces more energy than it uses. It does that with a design to minimize energy consumption, solar panels, and a geothermal HVAC system – no energy for this home comes from fossil fuel-based sources. It has no boiler or furnace.
This 566-square foot modern home sits on an infill lot in Toronto and has been getting a lot of attention in the last few months. That’s partially in response to the design and maybe some general interest in small homes — this one is roomy for an urban condo but small for a single-family house. The owner, Patrick Flynn, wanted something modern, low-maintenance, and minimalist and this place is all of those things.
Nove — Italian for nine — is a handsome nine-unit project in the Mission District of San Francisco. The green project features LEED Platinum certification and architectural design by Handel Architects. And, with purchase prices in the range of $975,000 – $1,600,000, eight of nine units have already sold and closed, according to Builder Magazine.

In fact, the Pacific Palisades home achieved LEED Platinum certification and all electricity is provided by a 28-panel, 5.2 kW rooftop photovoltaic array. Two solar thermal panels provide about 70% of the domestic hot water needs.

SushiBOX just opened at 2nd and Congress in downtown Austin, so you’ll want to drop by if in the area. The re-purposed container features bio-based spray foam insulation, rainwater HOGs, and some nifty waterjet-cut details. Executive Chef Ben Crockett leads the sushi-making experience and there’s already one positive review on Yelp.
