This new, luxury inn and spa just opened last week in Yountville, California, a small town in Napa County named after one of the first guys to establish a vineyard in the area. The 62-unit boutique getaway includes a spa with four treatment rooms, rooptop infinity pool, fine dining restaurant, and meeting spaces. Designed by WATG, the inn also features unique indoor/outdoor features such as private courtyards for guests and private outdoor showers.
This is the design for a new place to stay called h2hotel in Healdsburg, California. Healdsburg is a small town of something like eleven thousand people. It’s smack dab in the heart of Sonoma County, a place where wine enthusiasts and travelers go for rest and respite. Environmentalism is quite common in northern California, so its natural that h2hotel would be designed to include a plentiful array of green amenities. And starting in 2010, transients and guests of all kinds will have the opportunity to stay in one of thirty-six rooms in the four-floor h2hotel.
Time Equities, Inc. just broke ground on 50 West Street, Manhattan’s newest green condo and hotel skyscraper. Designed by influential architect Helmut Jahn, the $600 million, 580,000 sf mixed-use eco-tower is shooting for LEED Gold certification upon completion in 2011. As a result, the 65-story tower will incorporate a host of green features and measures, including a green roof, water-efficient fixtures, automated blinds and energy control systems, recycling of demolition materials, use of sustainable and rapidly renewable materials, and an energy-efficient glass facade to filter in daylight and filter out UV rays.
Slated to open in 2009, Three PNC Plaza is planned to be one of the largest, environmentally-friendly, mixed-use buildings in the U.S. The 23-story building is also Pittsburgh's first new high-rise in 20 years. 3 PNC will have office space, 28 condominiums, a restaurant, retail space, underground parking, and a Fairmont Hotel. Zabeel Properties just announced details of a new landmark hotel and leisure development for Dubai. Although no renderings or designs are yet available, Dubai-based Zabeel Properties also confirmed the appointment of LA-based architecture firm, GRAFT, whose team of design consultants for the project will include the Hollywood actor, Brad Pitt. Pitt’s involvement in the design for the resort demonstrates his interest in green development and architecture. Says Brad: "Whilst acting is my career, architecture is my passion. Selecting this development as my first major construction project has been a simple decision. It will underpin not only my values for environmentally-friendly architecture, but also embrace my career in entertainment."
Sorry for the celebrity gossip bit, but I just couldn’t hold back! I’m definitely interested in seeing the sustainable design for this new hotel, so we’ll have more details when they’re released.
