The word reclaimed is often used these days. Just in the past week or so, we’ve seen a reclaimed bathroom, reclaimed pallet floors, and reclaimed housing. So here’s one more: reclaimed furniture in the form of the new Joshua Collection by Amenity. Named for the famous Joshua Tree, this furniture is handmade from Douglas Fir that was harvested and milled 50-100 years ago and seasoned in the sun of California for decades.
Housefish, a modular furniture company based in Denver, Colorado, conceived a new shelf design with inspiration from a beehive. Called Hex Modular Shelving, each shelf is made with custom aluminum extrusions that are light, strong, and hexagonal. The extrusions are then paired with FSC-certified, zero-VOC finish, maple plywood boards to create a strong and contemporary piece of furniture.
Earlier this year, we mentioned the All Wood Botanist Bench, which is made with 12 sheets of sustainably harvested poplar and high-grade engineered veneers. Botanist Minimal weighs 45 pounds, measures 60″L x 18″D x 18″W, and has walnut or rift oak finishes, making it perfect for modernists with a flare for eco-friendly furniture. If you’re in this group, the modern piece is being shipped upon funding to early backers via Kickstarter for $299, according to its designer Dario Antonioni. Check it out.
There’s a beautiful collection of sustainable furniture called JH2 OneTreeHome that launched at ICFF earlier this year. Founded by John Houshmand and Jack Donenfeld, New York-based JH2 OneTreeHome offers beds, benches, coffee tables, side tables, consoles, dining tables, and desks — all made with a blend of glass, steel, and wood, FSC-certified Nanciton and Cedro Macho, from Nicaragua. In fact, some of this wood comes from trees felled during Hurricane Felix in 2007. Prices vary by item.
While running this site, we get access to deals every now and then. I figure some of you may want to know about these, so we’ll try to share the related ones and links with “[$]” will indicate that purchases may benefit Jetson Green.
For example, All Modern is selling Herman Miller pieces for 15% off with free shipping [$] through June 13. This includes the iconic Eames Lounge and Ottoman (pictured), which I’d love to purchase in duplicate someday to pass on to my sons.
It’s Spring and high time to get outside. One way to do that is with an outdoor fire feature to warm friends and family as the sun goes down. Phoenix-based metal artist Brandon Williams designed Modfire, a sleek, 14-gauge steel fireplace, after seeing a need in the market for a cool, modern outdoor options. His modern 48″ x 22″ feature is available in natural, red, blue, and orange with pricing from $950. In addition, Modfire can be outfitted to run on natural gas or propane, if desired.
