Floating Micro Cabin

I don’t know about you, but living in a floating home has always appealed to me. And this floating tiny cabin prototype recently built by the Russian firm BIO Architects would fit the bill perfectly. They are calling it DD16 and it is designed for use in harsh climates, while it also operates off-the-grid. […]

Helicopter Turned Into a Cool Hotel

This conversion of a helicopter into a cozy, and very unique hotel, takes the concept of repurposing and recycling to a whole new level. Both those practices are, of course, a must in achieving a more sustainable future. This one-of-a-kind hotel is located in Stirling, Scotland and was created out of an old Sea King helicopter. […]

Tiny Off-The-Grid Home Full of Bells and Whistles

The Canadian firm Rewild Homes recently designed a cool new tiny home, which is big enough for two and features a very cozy and comfortable layout. They are calling it Blue Heron, and it can be taken off-grid if the owners so desire. […]

Industrial Crane Turned into a Private Retreat

Seems that unique remodeling and repurposing projects are popping up everywhere lately, which is a good thing. And this one is every bit as cool as the helicopter turned into a hotel. it is an old industrial crane, which was once used for loading coal, that has been transformed into a private retreat. The project was undertaken by the Copenhagen-based firm Arcgency and is located in the city’s harbor. The aptly named Krane features a luxury multi-floor interior, complete with a spa, meeting room, and a private apartment at the top. It also features a lot of outdoor terrace space. […]

Tiny Home with a Steel Frame

A number of professional tiny home building companies have emerged in recent years, and as the field evolves, so do the construction methods. An example of this is the new tiny home model recently unveiled by SteelGenix, a Denver, Colorado-based tiny home builder. They used lightweight, high-strength steel framing, while the exterior is also clad in metal. Using steel instead of wood for the framing reduces the overall weight of the tiny home in this case, though this of course depends on the gauge. The home is appropriately named Steelhaus. […]

Recycled Shipping Container House

It’s been awhile since we reported on a cool new shipping container home, but this awesome piece of cargotecture easily makes up for that. It’s called Kin Kin Container House and it was built using a disused shipping container that was already on the property when owner Troy Walker purchased it. Most of the interior furnishings are also made from recycled materials, so it’s an all-around winner. The home is located in Kin Kin, Queensland, Australia. […]
