Waste House is Made of Garbage

Waste House is a project recently completed by a team of 253 students and apprentices who were led by BBM Architects Director and senior lecturer Duncan Baker-Brown. The house is located at the University of Brighton’s Grand Parade campus and it is made entirely out of waste materials. It is quite an exercise in recycling, and the builders believe it is the first permanent house made entirely from waste in Britain.

Relax Shacks Builds a Micro Reading Pod for NYU Professor

Derek “Deek” Diedricksen of RelaxShacks.com is in the process of completing a micro home for an NYU professor to use as a reading and study pod. The pod is built mostly from recycled, repurposed and salvaged materials. It’s also on wheels for easy transportation, though the owner plans to primarily use it on a lake front plot of land where it will serve as a quiet escape from daily life.

Sustainable Tiny Homes on Wheels

YahiniHomes, a tiny house company led by Danny Yahini has been designing and constructing sustainable and energy efficient homes for over 25 years. The company is based in Athens, Ohio, and offers several different types of tiny houses with off-the-grid capabilities. The houses Danny designs and constructs can be set up on a trailer, or placed on all types of foundations. They can also easily be added to later, in case the owner needs more room as the years pass.

3D Printed Homes Made in China

The company WinSun Decoration Design Engineering Co recently printed several 3D houses in Shanghai, China. The houses were printed using concrete and a huge 3D printer. Each of the houses they printed measures 200 square meters and costs only about $4800.

Tiny Student Housing Experiment in Atlanta

Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has successfully completed their next generation urban housing design project, which involved repurposing an abandoned parking deck by turning it into affordable student housing. This was done through designing and constructing several tiny houses on the top deck of the parking garage, which are known as SCADPads. The units are to be officially launched on April 9, 2014.
