Sustainable Industries recently announced its sixth-annual Top 10 Green Building Products as selected from more than 100 entries this year by an expert panel of judges. The products have been chosen based on a view toward environmental performance, scalability/market impact, innovativeness, design aesthetic, value and compatibility with the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED rating system. Here are all ten:
Sunset Cabin is a 275-square foot lake retreat that’s camouflaged with a green roof and cedar-slat facade. Though completed in 2004, I thought it would be interesting to share some of the construction details perhaps for the benefit of others thinking about building something similar. The cabin, located in Southern Ontario, Canada, was designed by Taylor Smyth Architects and built by Brothers Dressler with Yaan Poldaas.
Velux introduced the Lovegrove chandelier about a year ago, and, with a best of the best Red Dot 2010 award, the sunlight diffuser is getting more and more interest. Designed by Ross Lovegrove, the lamp works in conjunction with Velux sun tunnels. Lovegrove’s orb reflects natural sun light to the ceiling for room distribution and can be adjusted for intensity and angle. The product is supposed to be available starting this month; find and contact a Velux distributor for pricing and availability.
